Biography

Jasmin Mesić was born on October 14, 1969 in Bihać. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Sarajevo.

He worked in legal affairs in the municipal administrative body, where he gained considerable experience in the field of property relations, planning and cadastre, general administration and social activities, in which services he also performed managerial duties. In 2006, he was appointed to the position of Cantonal Prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of the Una-Sana Canton, in which he worked for many years, inter alia, on war crimes cases. In 2017, he was appointed Deputy Chief Cantonal Prosecutor.

Thanks to his remarkable success and expertise in the field of war crimes, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina has hired him as an expert consultant for the education of judges, prosecutors and police investigators. He has also been repeatedly engaged by UN Women as a consultant and lecturer on war crimes with elements of sexual violence. He lectured as a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Bihać. He has collaborated with a large number of domestic and foreign NGOs, as well as with state embassies of countries that have been interested in the situation of victims of war violence and war crimes in general. He achieved this cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also abroad, many conferences and round tables as a moderator and participant (The Hague, Washington, New York, Amsterdam, Tirana, Pristina, Podgorica, Brioni, Belgrade, etc.).

He co-starred as one of three prosecutors from around the world in a film made and directed by award-winning U.S. director Leslie Thomas called The Prosecutors, which follows the work of successful prosecutors engaged in prosecuting war crimes with elements of sexual violence in the world. During his work, he achieved notable cooperation with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) based in The Hague, as well as the Institute for Missing Persons in BiH, in Sarajevo. He participated as a protagonist in several documentaries produced by various media houses, on the topic of murder cases in which he acted as prosecutor.     

In March 2021, he founded the Jasmin Mesić Law Firm, where he works as an attorney.
